With this commit, we introduce a benchmarking infrastructure: a new
controller, accessible at the route /web/benchmarks which will render a
new template (web.benchmark_suite).
This template uses benchmark.js and qunit.js to display a list of
benchmarking informations. For example, the number of op/s for
instantiating and destroying a list view.
I hope that this is the start of the beginning of taking the habit to
check our JS code performance sometimes, and making sure we do not have
large regression without a good reason.
Since the new views merge, a lot of design elements were broken. This
was particularly impacting the fields in the editable list view; indeed
the editable list view is not using an inline form view anymore so the
fields in the list were not properly styled as the LESS was still
defined assuming the form view environment (for example the invalid
fields were red for o2m fields in form view but not in editable list
view even though they got the right CSS class).
This commit refactor the LESS following these rules:
- No more division of non-layout and layout rules. Dividing LESS rules
in x_layout.less and x.less was a mistake. Many rules can be
considered to be layout and not layout at the same time, developers
always have to switch from one file part to the other, many CSS
selectors (and rules!) are duplicated for nothing, ...
- Field style is extracted from x_view.less and put in the new
fields.less file. As before, the fields_extra.less will contain the
rules specific to community so that the enterprise repo can override
those by replacing the whole file.
- Many classes have been renamed so that o_form_x_y becomes o_x_y as
many classes can now be applied outside of form view. These classes
should not be used in templates anyway.
The commit also changes the DOM of fields so that it is more minimalist
(no useless parent div, etc).
Input elements are not automatically styled anymore, they have to get
the o_input class explicitely. This allows to fix lots of small style
bugs of previous versions (required monetary field had not the proper
style, readonly m2m tags appeared as editable, ...). This also improves
the LESS code.
The editable list view should also completely stop flickering on chrome
and firefox.
The commit also removes the orange outline on list view dirty cells.
The commit also removes deprecated static xml, LESS and other code.
Notice there are still styles to restore/fix and LESS to improve.
We changed the do_action method recently: before, it was calling
recursively its parent, now it simply triggers up an event. We also
moved it to the 'services' mixin. However, we did not properly connect
the 'on_success' option: it is not an option for the view manager, but
for the abstract web client. As such, it should not be in the options
parameter, but it should simply be a key in the event payload.
This commit was found by solving the two following issues:
- open sale application, click on 'Inbox' icon to go to discuss,
Discuss is opened, but the navbar stays with sales application
- after installing module website_crm_partner_assign in kanban view for apps,
it does not reload...
Both of these were caused by the need to do something after a do_action,
and the deferred was not resolved at all.
The views can specify js (and css) libraries to lazy load when
they are instantiated for the first time. The previous
implementation was too naive as it always loaded the specified
libraries in parallel. However, it may happen (e.g. gantt view)
that some of those libraries depend on other ones.
This commit implements a mechanism to handle libs dependencies
between each other. For instance, specifying:
js_libs: [
['a', 'b'],
['c'],
],
will load 'a' and 'b' in parallel, but wait for them to be
loaded before loading 'c'.
The new implementation still supports the old syntax. So,
js_libs: ['a', 'b', 'c'],
will load 'a', 'b' and 'c' in parallel.
With this commit, we introduce a new way to perform a RPC. During the
history of the Odoo web client, many ways to do a rpc have been
introduced, for various reasons. Let us mention the Model class (to
perform a call on a specific method from a model, the web.ajax module
(low level primitive), the dataset.call method, the this.rpc method (was
removed at some point), the session.rpc method and maybe some others.
With this commit, we reintroduce the this.rpc method, with a
'mid-level' API: not really high level (not automatic domain/context
calculations), but still higher level than direct web.ajax calls.
This new method is intended to replace all other RPCs in Odoo web
client. Of course, web.ajax will still be available, but it is
discouraged to use it directly. Using the rpc method means that the
rpcs are done through an event bubbling up, which means that the call is
testable.
This commit introduce a full redesign of all JS views. We started
basically from scratch. The goal was to unify all the various views
under a common framework, to make them testable, to make then usable in
different conditions (in studio, or in the frontend), and to make our
lives easier.
Some important points are:
- we introduced new coding guidelines (camelCase, 80 chars width, ...)
- we have a brand new testing framework (still QUnit based)
- kanban view moved to the web addon
- calendar view (formerly web_calender) moved to web as well
- the tree view was removed
- all new code should be documented
We hope that this code is the start of a new era for the Odoo web
client, we want to have a high quality codebase, well documented, well
tested, well designed.

Modern browser implement the autofill specs as described at
https://html.spec.whatwg.org/multipage/forms.html#autofill
This means that there is now a way to tell the browser when a password
field is supposed to be filled with the user's own password (e.g. on a
login field), and when it's supposed to be used to input a new secret
value (e.g. when changing someone else's password).
This can be distinguished by setting the autocomplete attribute
to `current-password` or `new-password`.
In addition, many browsers have decided to entirely disregard the
autocomplete='off' attribute value, because it is felt that using
a secure password manager (as provided by those browsers) is a net
gain for security, allowing users to pick stron passwords.
See also https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Security/Securing_your_site/Turning_off_form_autocompletion
Based on this, the framework should generally consider that
password fields in the backend are meant to be used for *setting*
new values (autocomplete="new-password", i.e. no autocompletion!),
whereas the password field on the login page can indeed be autofilled
with the user's current password (autocomplete="current-password").
In addition to making the above changes, this patch also
lets developer specify their own `autocomplete` attribute on
text input fields.
If the user writes a password larger than 4096 characters at the login
screen, it causes a crash instead of displaying the "Wrong
login/password" message.
The Python library used to hash password (passlib) is by default limited
to 4096 characters. Above this limit, it raises an error (source:
https://pythonhosted.org/passlib/lib/passlib.exc.html).
Allowing a password larger than 4096 is not necessary, we just limit the
field maximum length since such a situation should happen because of an
incorrect copy/paste.

Before this commit, the DomainSelector had to be instanciated with an
array-typed value which forced the user to use (and import) the pyeval
module. Now, the conversion to array is done in the DomainSelector.
This commit introduces a web.domainUtils module allowing to do the
convertion array -> string and string -> array of a domain.

1) Create the independant DomainSelector widget
- Allow to build a prefix char domain
2) Replace old FieldCharDomain with a new FieldDomain which uses the
new DomainSelector widget
3) Create the independant ModelFieldSelector widget
- Allow to build a valid field chain for a specific model
(e.g 'partner_id.name' for a 'res.users')
- Used by DomainSelector widget
---
The DomainSelector widget uses a tree-like representation with
user-friendly buttons (ALL/ANY/+/-/...). Any domain can be built,
except those containing the "!" (not) operator or some operators
like "like", "child_of" (@see DomainSelector). However, if the
user enters these in the debug input, the widget can handle them.
Note: these widgets had to do unusual stuff the widget API does not
allow to handle efficiently right now but it will be adapted to the
new widget/field API in a further update.
Note2: the widgets also have possibility of other improvements like
supporting m2o input instantiation in DomainLeaf, etc.

This work is an adaptation of the original code made by @pga-odoo.
* Do not assault the user with a full traceback on bug, but indicates
an error occured and allow him to toggle the traceback
* Automatically scroll the traceback to the end (better for python
errors)
* Propose the user to report the traceback by using a new "Copy"
button which correctly copies the full error + traceback
The web modules defines a "layout" template which is only used by the
login default page. Now the backend template "web.webclient_bootstrap"
and the frontend template "website.layout" both use the "web.layout"
template as base.
Some parameters can be passed to customize the default "web.layout"
template:
- "head": content will be placed at the end of the <head> tag of the
page
- "title": to set the title of the page (the <title> tag should not be
placed "by hand")
- "x_icon": the url for the page icon
- "html_data": dictionnary whose key-value pairs will be placed as
attribute-value for the <html> tag
- "body_classname": the classname to set on the <body> tag
Note: xpath expression on the website.layout template can now only find
the #wrapwrap element and its children. An expression "//body" will not
have any result. If something has to be added in the body element but
not in the #wrapwrap element, simply change the xpath
<xpath expr="//body" position="inside"> with
<xpath expr="//div[@id='wrapwrap']" position="after">
Commit 977db823c7 refactored the web module so that it gathers
common features of community and enterprise. The problem is that the
web.webclient_bootstrap template content lost its groups attributes.
This had the effect to make the client crash when accessing the
template for calendar invitation for example, as the template was
trying to render menus without menu data.
Private browsing in Safari doesn't allow to store anything in the localStorage,
and it throws an error when you try to do so. This new JS module is a connector
to the browser's localStorage if it is enabled, and if not, it simply keeps its
own storage in RAM.
Mobile virtual keyboards will often capitalize the first letter of
an input text field, which is annoying as odoo logins are case-sensitive.
This will no longer happen thanks to this new attribute.
