PURPOSE
Allow alias domains to be multiple, notably to be used in a multi company
environment where each company has its own alias domain.
SPECIFICATIONS
Now that alias domains are used in Odoo codebase there is no usage anymore
for the old config parameters. So long and thanks for all the fish !
Task-36879 (Mail: Support Multi Domains Aliases)
Part-of: odoo/odoo#76734
Description:
The mail_activity table can grow quite large, for example a
business that is making heavy use of the CRM module, slowing down
searches on said table. A lot of users sets activities and then
forget about them, just polluting the database with useless data.
Also we currently keep the activities of archived users, which will
never be resolved, because said users has been archived, so it is
supposed that he will never be able to log in again to remove their
scheduled activities.
Solution:
- Delete activities when archiving an user
- Add a gc routine to delete overdue activities older than X years,
where X is a system parameter.

In this commit, we moved all features related to the PWA and the PWA
itself to the community.
This includes:
* PWA
* Web Push Notification
* VCARD
Note from original commits:
===========================
PWA (part 1)
------------
This commit adds a ServiceWorker to complement the WebManifest to
complete the setup of the backend as a Progressive Web App.
More precisely, it adds the route, registration and the most basic
ServiceWorker to allow the backend to be recognized as an installable
PWA.

PWA (part 2)
------------
This commit adds a WebManifest as a first step toward setuping the
backend as a Progressive Web App.
In a nutshell:
- the web app's name is configurable through a config parameter
(available in the Settings, in debug); defaulting to "Odoo".
- the web app's icon has been revamped to accommodate the required sizes;
also its design matches the one from the Android app.
- "theme-color" is used to color part of the browser/system UI to match
Enterprise brand color; also supports the dark mode.

PWA shortcuts
-------------
The main goal of this commit is like we did inside the `Android Odoo
Mobile App`, allowing users to have some Odoo application shortcuts.
We added the following apps in the key `shortcuts` on `web.manifest` in
these orders: `Discuss`, `CRM`, `Project`, `To-Do` (old `Notes`).

Offline mode
------------
This commit introduces a way to notify the user that he's "offline"
(aka. cannot reach its Odoo server) and that Odoo doesn't work in a
graceful way in this circumstance.
To do so, the Service-Worker will return the response of the
´web/offline´ route, which is cached at its setup.
Note: this screen is only show when launched while "offline" and fails
to load the requested page. It does not "interrupt" the WebClient to
show this screen when the connection drops off (cf. not a replacement
for the existing notification).
Task ID: 3203639
WebPush
-------
WebPush allows sending data to the user browser/app(PWA) even when
tab/app is closed. Web push is a "constant" link between the
ServiceWorker of browser/app and a WebPush server.
Note that each browser has its own custom WebPush server.
e.g.:
Chrome: https://fcm.googleapis.com/
Firefox: https://updates.push.services.mozilla.com/
Safari: https://web.push.apple.com/
Edge: https://wns2-ln2p.notify.windows.com/
WebPush introduces some cryptographic notion to ensure some the
reliability of the data sent:
VAPID: "Voluntary Application Server Identification" is the standard
used to generate the public and the private to sign the message
between the browser and the WebPush server
JWT: "JSON Web Token" is the standard used to sign the payload to the
WebPush server
ECE: "Encrypted Content-Encoding" is the standard used by WebPush to
encrypt the data of the payload to avoid sending RAW data
outside trusted network.
Simplified steps how to WebPush works:
The Javascript code of a web page subscribes to the WebPush server
(using the VAPID key generated at mail_entreprise install).
The WebPush server replay with a subscription (and some other info
like the unique URL endpoint per subscription where to send a
notification)
The application (odoo-bin in our case) sends a post request to the
WebPush server using the specific URL endpoint of the user (using JWT
and ECE).
The WebPush server sends back to the browser the encrypted payload.
The browser decrypts the payload and sends it to the ServiceWorker
linked to the subscription.
Here is a Sequence diagram of all interactions to process a web push
notification.
In Odoo, we use WebPush to send Notification to the user.
This commit aims to have a parity with the Android/iOS Mobile App at
the notification level.
Notes:
There are some ways to encrypt (ECE) the message for WebPush:
AESGCM128: this is a draft
AESGCM: very well documented
AES128GCM: RFC8188 Standard encoding
We implement only the RFC one as it is the only one implemented in all
major updated browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, ...)
You need to allow the desktop "Notification" and "Push" inside your
browser. For iOS Devices, it only works on iOS 16.4+ and it's requiring
Odoo to first be added to the Home Screen. It's delivered silently,
meaning no sound, vibration, haptics or screen wake.
Note:
Notifications are sent directly if there are less than five
notifications, otherwise we use a cron triggered immediately.
Also, we have changed the value of the "QueryCount" as mail_enterprise
executes a new query to search the devices associated with the partner.
We have added a "try/except" for any Exception before the
push_to_end_point method as we want to avoid blocking a normal flow
just for a not mandatory push notification if something happens during
the push to the endpoint.

VCARD
-----
In the process of replacing the native methods exposed in the mobile
apps, this commit implements the download of a vCard containing a
partner's information.
By using this standard format, both regular web users and mobile ones
are now able to save the partner's details to use them with their usual
address book software.
On a mobile device, the actual import of those informations is delegated
to the operating system.

RATIONALE
As multi-company tolerant alias domains will soon replace the usage of
configuration parameters, having them in base then replaced by more advanced
models in mail would be complicated to handle and not useful. Move those
ICP to 'mail' so that all mail configuration is done in that module.
SPECIFICATIONS
Move config parameter used for alias domains configuration in 'mail' module.
Base should be as simple as possible and let mail deal with mail server
complexity.
Move 'mail.{bounce/catchall}.alias' used with 'mail.alias.domain' to make
bounce and catchall emails. Move 'mail.default.from' as it will be integrated
into alias domains in some form.
Note that 'mail.default.from_filter' stays as an ICP in base as it is a
more global default parameter. It is used as default value in 'connect' when
no mail_server is used and no from_filter can be retrieved.
Some tests in 'base' are either fixed, either moved directly into 'mail'.
We now differentiate base behavior (without ICP) from configurable behavior
(with ICP in mail).

PURPOSE
Settings allow to change colors used in emails (primary and secondary colors).
Those are used for headers and buttons. They are currently shared with colors
used for base documents and reports layout: changing email colors change
documents colors, which is not expected nor clearly indicated.
SPECIFICATIONS
Split configuration: colors used in documents may differ from colors used in
emails. Duplicate color fields (primary and secondary). To ease setup when
updating documents colors, update mail colors accordingly. Inverse is not
true as we consider documents being the main configuration, and emails a
more fine-grain configuration.

Allow partner to unfollow a document from a follow up email of that document
through an unsubscribe URL in the email even if not connected.
It works for internal user for follow up on any document and for any partner on
follow up of document tagged as authorizing being unfollowed by any partner (
slide.channel and slide.slide).
Technical note:
The unfollow block is rendered in mail_thread and updated for each recipient in
mail_mail. We don't render it in mail_mail because we don't have the language
of the message at that point.
Depending on the partner and the related document, the unfollow block is:
- either removed if the user cannot unfollow the document (for example if it
doesn't follow it)
- or updated with partner and document information + a security token

Many templates use the company logo that is set by default on
database creation. As that logo is clearly a placeholder and the user
isn't necesserely prompted to update it. It's possible for a user to
inadvertently start sending emails with "your logo" placeholders
plastered all over.
This removes the default logo of the company and removes it from
templates conditionally.
The logo isn't simply replaced with a transparent PNG as the templates
set a fixed height for the logo, which would look weird.

When the template layout was made more mail-client friendly in 16.0
we used padding on a <td> node with
a color background to make it look like a button with centered text.
This approach makes most of the button unclickable.
The fix is to put the padding inside the link itself so that the whole
'button' is clickable. We already do this for most templates.

important security parameter of his account has changed.
Here is a list of what is currently notified:
- password change
- login change
- email change
- 2FA enabled/disabled
- trusted device (for 2FA) added/removed
This email is rather simple and only invites the end-user to take actions if

Before this commit the neutralize system introduced in v16 was using ORM
methods in order to change appropriate records. Although flexible, this approach
could lead to call some methods with side effects while neutralizing

This patch converts the neutralize system to a safer "inert" SQL based approach
by migrating the generic method _neutralize to SQL files exposed in the

Make mail_notification_layout as the default mail template and remove
message_notification_email. We now only have 2 main notification mail layout
templates (outside of a light one): the default one and one that inherits from
it to only change the signature to the responsible instead of the author one.
In this operation the layout of message_notification_email has been integrated
in mail_notification_layout to support outlook mail client for which
message_notification_email has just been reworked (odoo/odoo#92847).
Technical note: we have integrated the "internal communication" banner from
"message_notification_email" into the new default template
"mail_notification_layout" which cause one added query in the test for querying
the flag internal from mail.message.subtype.

Ease the understanding of the notifications sent when users are assigned to an
activity or a model (task, lead, ...).
Technical note:
- the customization of data sent to the email layout template (here subtitles)
should be done by overriding
mail_thread._notify_by_email_prepare_rendering_context on the model.
But in this case, we send an activity (ex.: todo) for a model (ex.: crm.lead)
which involves 2 models. Data from both models must be sent to the template
layout. To solve this problem an optional parameter to
mail_thread.message_notify has been added: subtitles. This allows the
caller which knows about the 2 models to set the values for subtitles for
the template.
- mail_activity._render_notify_header has been added to render the subject and
subtitles using the language of the recipients through the context lang
variable.
- a generic mail notification template has been added and the specific
mail_notification_paynow has been derived from it as the only change is the
handling of the signature.

Purpose
=======
Currently, only email sending can be scheduled with the `scheduled_date` field
defined on on <mail.mail>. It's not possible to delay the sending of
notifications.
We want to be able to delay the sending of the emails, but also the inbox
and bus bus notifications.
Technical
=========
For that purpose, we created a new model which stores the message we need to
notify with the scheduled date. When a scheduled_datetime is given we skip the
notification process. Instead an entry in that new model is created. A cron
regularly polls the scheduled message and launch the notification process on
messages that are ready to be sent.

All the recipients of message were not always displayed in discuss and some
users were wondering if the message has been sent to everybody concerned.
This solves the problem by allowing to specify whether to display all
recipients based on the message sub type and defining for which sub type it
must.
Technical note:
- The added query count in some tests is due to the fact that the inbox
notification can now be displayed on the client. Before they were discarded
right away. Now additional check must be done. The added query is due to the
test self.res_partner_id.partner_share which is now also done on inbox
notifications (This has been determined by testing locally for all tests except
one: TestMailHeavyPerformancePost.test_complete_message_post, but it is likely
for the same reason).
- A speed optimization could be to add mail_notification.display as stored
computed field in order to avoid that extra read but it would add a little more
needed storage.

<mail.gateway.loop.threshold> the email is ignored.

* sale orders
* RFQ and purchase orders
SPECIFICATIONS

* remove gray background that is around the white content (aka have an
email with an uniform white background);
* move button on top of email like other notification templates (top-left
and company logo is top-right);
* fix various small wording issues;
* fix signature usage;
Technical specifications
Remove custom definition of access links and labels in 'Pay Now' notification
template (``mail_notification_paynow``). It is now done at model level through
the ``_notify_get_groups`` that is generic to notification emails. This allows
to remove QWeb override in purchase and sale notably. Displaying access links
is now controller by the ``has_button_access`` value. Model computes links,
access and labels while view only displays what is requested. That way any
template can use those values instead of being defined in a template subject
to user changes.
Sale / Purchase
Overrides of those modules is not necessary anymore since button labelling
and URLs are managed at model level.
Purchase "specific" buttons for Accept / Update dates are now email layout
actions, like used in other modules like HR or Project.

Purpose of this commit is to add signature only if really asked. A variable
is available for that purpose (``email_add_signature``, recently renamed from
``add_sign``). We also correctly check signature is not void or pseudo-void
using tool ``is_html_empty``. Indeed editor may generates pseudo-void content
like ``<p><br /></p>``.
As signature is not added when a template is used (see composer code) we ensure
it is defined in mail templates used in "Send by email" flows. Indeed we cannot
know if a template already has a signature or not. To avoid having twice a
signature no signature is added in email notification layout when a template
is involved.

Light template is used is several notification processes as an alternate
layout to the classic one. It currently lacks any link to the document that
generated the notifications.
We add this behavior in this commit. Behavior is the same as the classic
notification email, aka a link to mail/view that chooses what to do based
on access rights and user status (internal, portal, ...).

This commit adds a feature where users can reply to messages of other
users, doing this will show a reduced version of the message that has
been replied to above the message once posted, clicking on this reduced
version will scroll to the original message and highlight it if that
message is already loaded.

Before this commit, editing a mail.activity with the "meeting" category would
open a modal form for the mail.activity, which did not make much sense.
When editing a mail.activity that is linked to a calendar.event, you will now
jump on the calendar view to edit the related event, which is much more
convenient.
In addition, when scheduling such an activity, the "Edit" button in the chatter
is renamed to "Reschedule", to show the user that he will land on the calendar
view.
Furthermore, trying to delete an activity that is linked to a meeting will now
prompt a confirmation dialog warning the user that the meeting will be deleted
as well.
Finally, we moved the 'phonecall' activity category from the 'voip' module
(enterprise) to the base 'mail' module.
Scheduling a phonecall activity will let the user choose if he wants to:
- Simply save the activity, which will schedule a regular mail.activity
- Open the calendar to create a related calendar.event
Used typically when you want your colleagues to see that you are busy in your
calendar during this call.

Purpose
=======
Purpose of this commit is to add a new group for the mail template designer.
Goal is to make roles clearer: managers edit templates, users use them. This
commit allow some designers / managers to make email template and to let
others users use those email templates.
Specifications
==============
When this feature is enabled in the Settings page, a new group is required to
modify email templates in a composer like wizard or to make dynamic content.
This allows to separate managers editing / composing templates from standard
users that use them.
If the current does not have this group, the email body will be in readonly
mode if he selected an email template. That way we force him to use the email
template that the manager made.
Technical
=========
New Group
---------
Only users in this group will be able to create / write email template or
to write Jinja code in the mail composer (including other fields like subject
in mailing).
By default, all internal users have this group. Mass mailing users also have
this group as writing mailings is about the same management level as writing
templates.
Mail Composer Mixin
-------------------
In comment mode, the template is rendered and then saved on the body field
so non-"Mail Template Editor" users can load email templates.
But in mass mode, the body of the template is saved and then rendered and
many things change the body (HTML sanitizer, web editor move inline CSS
properties, add / remove spaces...). So in this case, we can not know if
the user changed the body or not. That is why we put the body field in
readonly mode so, it is not modified by the web editor.
Jinja code detection
--------------------
To detect dynamic Jinja content, we compile the template, and we browse the
AST. If we do not have a single "Template Data" node, we assume that the
template is dynamic.
When we detect the template as static, we do not render it. That way we
avoid unnecessary rendering.
Code cleaning
-------------
Move Jinja import into tools so that it is outside of mail framework code.

PURPOSE
=======
We want to increase the score of the emails sent by Odoo and we want to
avoid them to be marked as spam by the mail clients (gmail, outook...).
SPECIFICATIONS
===============
From filter
-----------
Add a new field on the "ir.mail_server" which is "from_filter". This
field defines the email address for which the outgoing email server can
be used.
The "from_filter" can either define an email address or a domain name.
Use the system parameter "mail.default.from" which allow us to define
a default email address which is used to encapsulate the emails
(default: notifications@<catch.all.domain>).
Mail server priorities
----------------------
When sending an email, we read the FROM header and,
- We first look for a mail server which match the entire mail FROM
in that case, we do not change the email header (not needed)
- If not found, we search a mail server which matches the domain name of
the mail from (do not need to change the headers in that case)
- If not found, find the mail server linked to the "notifications"
email (defined in the system parameter). Then change the FROM header
to the notification email, and put the old one in the name part of
this header.
E.g.
Initial mail from: "Admin" < admin@example.com >
Final mail from: "Admin (admin@odoo.com)" < notifications@odoo.com >
- If no notification email is configured or if no mail server are
found for the notification email, fallback to the old system and
spoof the FROM header. In that case we do not have the choice if we
want to send the email, he will probably be marked as spam.
Sending method priority
-----------------------
In the mail server models, we defined some priorities,
1. Forced SMTP session
2. Forced mail server
3. Try to find the best mail server (see "Mail server priorities")
4. If not found, read the odoo-bin arguments
Bounce
------
As there's no standard for bounce address, we put it in the envelope
(smtp_from). But in some case, it might be considered as spoofing. So,
we use the bounce address ONLY if the mail server is configured for the
entire domain name.
One behavior which might be broken is the following; we send an email as
"std@gmail.com" and the bounce address is on the domain "odoo.com".
Before we received the bounce notifications but we were spoofing the
local part and the domain.
Now
- if a mail server is configured for GMAIL, we do not use the bounce
address (and we might not receive the bounce notification)
- if no mail server is configured for GMAIL, but one is configured for
"odoo.com"
- the FROM header will be "notifications@odoo.com"
- the FROM envelope will be the bounce address
=> In this situation we are spoofing only the local part of the email
but it's allowed as the mail server is configured for the entire
domain name

Rationale
=========
Currently, mail channels have 2 modes
- They can be used like Discuss channel (chat, livechat, group)
- They can be used like a Mailing List (with the "email_send" field)
The mix of both feature in the same model causes some code complexity.
Several fields are not used in both cases (moderation related field)
and the future "Discord like" Discuss will even push the mail channel
further than the usage of the mailing list.
Because of all those reasons, we want to split the 2 mains features of
the mail channels into 2 different modules and models.
Purpose
=======
This commit remove the moderation feature of the mail channel
(email_send=True). This will be re-implemented in a separate module
in the next commit.
Do not be able to check messages in Discuss anymore because this
feature is only used to moderate the message and this feature will be
spitted in a new module "mail_group".

Right now, for notifications handled by odoo (which are being displayed on
discuss app / object chatter), few of the buttons have unexpected scroll
(mostly the CTAs that redirect to record / portal views) and ruins the UI.
This commit fixes the issue by improving such templates by using proper
paddings on the button.
