Note: original work of @dbh-odoo was to have + and - buttons on the
editor overlay but specs changed to use a standard dropdown (the work
of @dbh-odoo was thus adapted for this).

Closes https://github.com/odoo/odoo/pull/22197
- Remove useless snippet background suggestions (only one button to
open the media dialog directly)
- Show meaningful-only tabs in the media dialog (no document as
background, ...)
- When editing a background shows the background suggestions first and
show the background suggestions last for standard images. Technically,
this is done by filtering on the name/fname of the attachments and
adding magic name parts to the fname on image upload (e.g. when
uploading an image from the media dialog when customizing a bg, the
uploaded image will automatically be marked as a background). Note:
there were discussions to implement this feature with a tag system for
ir.attachment/s but the implementation's cost was too great in regards
to the feature.
- When editing an existing link or creating one from selected text, do
not show the "Link Label" field in the dialog; it was confusing. Only
show that field when adding a link at the cursor location with no
selected text.

Before this commit, the editor allowed defining the margin of some
elements and the height of some elements. There were three main
problems with this system:
1) When an user dragged the arrow, he often expected to change the
size of the element while he was in fact changing the margin
2) When changing the margin, you increase the space between two
elements but with a white space (while most users want a space
with the same color of the block they are resizing = padding)
3) When changing the height, the user was able to hide snippet parts
and the height was not consistent accross screen sizes
Now, the only thing you can edit is padding. There is only one arrow
for each direction, which allows increasing spacing and consistent
dimension at the same time.
The only feature that is lost with this change is the ability to
control vertical alignement of colored columns. This is not a problem
as colored columns are rare in our current snippets and there still
have the possibility to add margin classes by hand if necessary (there
are also plans to control vertical alignement another way).
Note: margin classes are kept for compatibility.
Main snippets can be dropped in `.oe_structure` elements and
`[data-oe-type=html]` elements. The second case happens when adding
a field in a page thanks to `t-field`. If used on a <p/> element,
the content cannot contain snippets (as browsers will not allow <div/>
and <section/> in a <p/>).
Note: we should not use <p/> with HTML fields at all but this might
happen with old databases... or by mistake. The problem is that the
problem is not visible during development without this fix.
website.page = old ir.ui.view with page=True
website.redirect is a new mechanism to replace in the futur the ir.attachment
mechanism of redirect.
From now, we don't have a specific /page controller to serve 'page'.
We use a new model website.page which is rendered if none route matches the url
and that the field 'url' on website.page matches the request.httprequest.path.
The order to serve a path is:
- Routes defines in controllers (/shop, /blog, ...)
- ir.attachment with name matching the path
- website.page with url matching the path
- website.redirect with url_from matching the path
- 404
To improve:
- allow regexp in website.redirect model
- allow to edit the view_arch from the page.management via redirect backend
(needed when traceback in the page, or when modifying a js/css/less/...)

This commit reviews the whole "JS side" of the web_editor and website
apps. This is a first step to be able to improve them with new and
better functionnalities; this commit is not supposed to change any
visual behavior.
The main goal was to achieve a structure similar to the backend one.
Now, the frontend side also has a root widget (like the WebClient)
and all other widgets are attached to it one way or another. This allows
the benefits of using the 'trigger_up' functionnality for example.
As RPC are now mainly done with the `this._rpc` functionnality (being
possible thanks to the parent hierarchy), the frontend will also be
possible to test thanks to QUnit in a future update (besides the "text"
editor side which still requires a refactoring to be able to do that).
---
Here are some of the changes:
(-) conventions and documentation
The code has been updated to follow JS conventions and a lot of code has
been commented (around +2000 lines of comment). This also means that
lots of functions have been renamed to use camelCase or simply to make
their name understandable.
See https://github.com/odoo/odoo/wiki/Javascript-coding-guidelines.
(-) deprecated: web_editor.base
The "web_editor.base" module has been split and does not force the
modules which require it to wait for DOM ready anymore. This was indeed
slowing loading times, but also prevented to use some modules in some
contexts (see the LESS editor use in web_studio which is the subject of
another task).
Now the "editor context" can be got thanks to the "web_editor.context"
JS module with its "get" function.
The "web_editor.base" module should probably not be used anymore (see
its code and recent updates).
(-) new: web.dom_ready
If a JS module should wait for the DOM to be ready to be executed, a
new JS module has been created: "web.dom_ready". This should always
be used in a module which only want to instantiate stuff. Do not
extend (or worst, include) classes after DOM ready.
(-) website.website
The "website.website" module has been split. "website.website" does not
return anything useful anymore, it just initialize some miscellaneous
stuff, without waiting for the DOM to be ready. You might want to check
"website.utils", "website.content.compatibility" or `WebsiteRoot`. Also
`website.form` has been deleted (use `this._rpc`), so has been
`website.error`. `website.prompt` will be removed in a future update to
be replaced by `Dialog.prompt`.
(-) widgets are great
Many classes which were not widgets are now widgets. This allows them to
use the 'events', the 'xmlDependencies' and the 'this._rpc' features for
example. Here are some of the main ones:
- Snippet options: these were classes with a `$el` for the menu element
and `$target` for the customized element. This is still the case
but following standard `Widget` structure (one exception: using
`this.$(...)` searches in the `$target` as before this update).
- Snippet animations: instead of class instances with a `$target`
element which can be `start` and `stop`, these are now standard
widgets which can be `start` and `destroy`. `this.$target` is
an alias to `this.$el` for ease of compatibility.
- Snippet editors: instead of class instances in charge of an editor
overlay, these are now widgets. Each "child" snippet editor is
properly attached as a "child", which allows editors to communicate
and to be properly destroyed.
(-) root widgets and website navbar
The frontend is different of the backend. In the backend, the page has
an empty <body/> element and all the components are instantiated from
parent to children (i.e. the `WebClient` is instantiated and is in
charge of instantiating the `ControlPanel`, etc). The frontend cannot
work like that on page loadings as they are way more frequent than in
the backend and we do not want them to flicker. A frontend page is
loaded as a <body/> element which already contains the website navbar
and its menus and the whole content page. JS code has to be "attached"
to these existing elements. This is possible thanks to the `RootWidget`
instances and the specialized `WebsiteRoot`, `IframeRoot` and
`WebsiteNavbar` (see code for details).
(-) lazy loading
No more (or at least a lot less) XML/JS has to be loaded on page
loading, thanks to the use of the `Widget.xmlDependencies` feature.
XML which have to be lazy loaded is loaded only on related Widget
instantiation if necessary, which allows to execute a lot of JS code
before the DOM is ready and to start many widgets on DOM ready (not
later). A visual benefit of this is clicking on the 'edit' button as
soon as it is possible: before this commit, this was sometimes not
doing anything as event handlers were not binded yet.
Still a possible exception: loading the session and locales. This may
be asynchronous stuff which is still required before widget
instantiations but this will be the subject of another task.
(-) deprecated code and code location
More than reviewing code and organizing it, many apparent dead code was
removed. More importantly, mislocated code was put in the right app.
This is the case for snippet animations which is a concept for website
apps but was defined in the web_editor app, or some translation concepts
which were part of website but should have been part of web_editor.

There are probably more things to say about this commit but I will let
the comments speak for those.
* mail_channel, mass_mailing, twitter, event
- t-install attribute holds the technical name of the module that
needs to be install to use a particular snippet.
- Disable the drag & drop feature for these dummy snippets.
- Move some images to website module.
- Installed snippets display at the top of the list.
- Hide not-installed module snippets if user don't have rights to install module.
- Change the info message "Add Images from Customize menu" to
"Add Images" and make it clickable
- Reorganize snippet options menu
- Improve the image dialog to be able to select/unselect
- Make sure previews are adapted when changing gallery images
Introduce a new snippet to show the company team.
This commit also introduces a new classe "s_no_resize_cols" to put
on a .row element to prevent the size and margins options to be used
on the .col-* children. This allows to build some complex layout without
having a deep hierarchy of snippet options.
Fixed some issues with parralax image updates:
- Background updated without clicking
- Default wallpaper not coming back
- Background disappearring sometimes
Commit d1a8d54aca broke the feature without mercy.
The mentioned commit introduces a nice improvement to allow the edition
of the company logo directly from frontend. However it also breaks the
option for non-logo parts (example: clicking on the address on the
contact us page). It also leaves most of the option code behind, which
makes useless code being executed for nothing.
This commit restores the company option the way it was and simply
deactivates it for the logo edition, which was the desired behavior.
This commit is a refactoring of the 's_parallax' snippet. Note that it
is compatible with previous parallax snippet (old snippets are just
transformed into the brand new one on page load). Note that scroll
speed are changed by this implementation though.
This solves several issues:
- Bg image went easily off of the frame if scroll speed was too fast
- The 'scroll speed' effect was visually inconsistent across different
devices.
- If the Bg image was smaller than the frame (condition which occurs
often in a responsive environment), then the image was totally
offset.
- Since the previous implementation use background-position property
to perform the effect, It was not possible to define an image
focus point.
This implementation solves the previous issues introducing a safe-area
that limit the effect range. It's calculated dynamically, according to
the current screen size and the 'speed' option.
The effect if now achieved thanks to the translation of a DOM element
instead of background-position changes. This allows to solve the last
mentionned problem and improve performance.
The implementation rely on the new animation methods of the snippets
Animation class.
As this use the "requestAnimationFrame" function, the snippet knows
the right time to repaint itself, instead of using the "scroll" event
which is triggered too many times and thus occurs between painting
frames. This change greatly improved performances (CPU/painting usage
many times smaller).
Since this snippet comes with a bg image, using 'text-muted' here
caused undesired result. The text may be invisible or difficult to read.
Moreover adding or remove this class is not natively supported by the
editor.
Note: this is not a full stable fix as it requires an update to be
deployed but the fix is not critical and may so be ignored without
breaking anything.
Wrap the text content of s_button and s_share snippets so that it can
be edited easily (on chrome, the icons which are next to the next give
the user a hard time).
Note: this is not a full stable fix as it requires an update to be
deployed but the fix is not critical and may so be ignored without
breaking anything.
Commit 3c98c78fc7 added the feature to be proposed redirection
after a click on a menu link in edit mode. This however applied to main
direct link in the menu and not sub-ones in sub-dropdowns. This commit
fixes this.
* Do not read multiple DOM data on each scroll. Simply read this when
necessary (edition / initialization).
* Throttle scroll event and debounce resize events (-> performance in
edition and navigation improved).
* Do not save useless data in the DOM.
* Have the parallax state consistent if the page undergo other changes
* Simplify DOM structure and LESS
- Allow to better see how to place snippets inside the area
- Before this commit, default parallax had different height on
chrome and firefox
Commit b309f3ab54 made the snippet remove
button always be there by removing the "preventParentEmpty" mixin.
Instead of preventing to remove the only child of a snippet, the system
was changed to remove the parent if this only child is removed. This
also applies on the system which hide the remove button if the child
cannot be dropped anywhere in the DOM.
Unfortunatly the image gallery snippet relied on the remove button to
be hidden for its content images. Indeed, it was implemented so that
the "remove" button is hidden but a "remove image from gallery" was
there in the customize menu. The solution is to remove this option and
copy its behavior on the standard remove button.
Note: this probably was not done before because the on_remove feature
was broken (fixed with commit 5e9ebcfb01).
* Add the ability to define palettes custom selection.
* Add the ability to define a custom title for the colorpicker dropdown
* Define a custom layout for single (unique) palette layout
* Define overlay color options based on new colopicker for
Cover and Banner text containers
* Define default palettes
The snippet section can have a color or a background. Previous commit
added the functionnality for its innercolumn too... but having a bg
image on top of another one does not make sense, so only keep the
color option for columns.
Commit 744cd64b53 re-added the removed
col system in the title snippet but did not respect the odoo structure
which is section > .container [> .row > .col-*] and put the container
class directly on the section. With this method, when changing the
background of the snippet, only the container part is filled
with background.
* s_banner
- Remove text-container hardcoded style (user will be able to use the
new transparent color palette instead)
- Improve indicators visibility on both dark or light bg
- Cursor: pointer for navigation buttons
* s_cover
* s_quote: remove the whole snippet
* s_three_columns
* s_reference
- Remove Quotes
- Add new logo demo images
* s_button: rename from "Button" to "Call to Action" + some design
* s_feature_grid
* Remove background position and color options for parallax
* Add background/color options for .jumbotron (button and big message)
* Add background/color options for s_cover and s_banner text container
* Reduce images number (remove unused ones)
* Improve images quality (so that they can be used for parallax too)
* Make them all available in the website library
* Snippet demo/default images are in a separate folder and a separate
record to allow theme customization (this was already the case for the
cover snippet but the system has been extended)
* Some snippet style improvements
* Review style of some UI components
* Rename some content
* Define a font-family less variable to be used to avoid that themes
customizations affect the UI. Note: theme should ideally not redefine
the font family of the body but of the #wrapwrap element but this is
done for safety.
* Overwrite other theme's customisations
* Minor style fixes
The "bigger text" option was an useless option as redundant with the
summernote editor one.
The "narrow" option always resulted in an ugly layout with bugs in
many contexts.
Note: the styling classes are kept for compatibility for now.
+ Adapt demo data of website_blog which rely on the "narrow" option.
Use up to date snippets with reduced column width to get the same
result.
* web_editor, website, mass_mailing
This menu allowed to scroll to the snippets sections by clicking on
their corresponding icons. It was useless as the sections are not
taking a lot of height. This also appeared buggy as clicking on the
last icon highlighted only the second one as this second one was still
the first section visible on the screen when the last section was
fully visible.
This also added fours buttons to the interface which contains already a
lot of them. Now this is replaced by a title "Add blocks" which makes
the editor cleaner and also improved the performance to enter the edit
mode.
When clicking on the logo or the company adress in the website edit
mode, the user can now choose to be redirected to the form view of
the company so that it can edit the data.
Now, when clicking on a menu item while being in edit mode, a modal
opens asking if we want to go to that page, edit that page, edit the
menu or do nothing (it only allowed to edit the menu item before).
Refactor snippet structure
* new "cover" snippet
* move the title out of col-md-12
* delete snippets (s_quote_slider)
* rename snippets (FAQ Roller -> Accordion)
* ...
Refactor the way the background images are handled so that themes
can customize the defaults ones easily without ugly xpath or ugly
css.
