Relative image urls have to be replaced with absolute urls in order to
be able to display them in the email. This failed to be done for urls in

Prior to this fix, elements with background images were converted to
images via the html2canvas library. This made them work in Outlook at
the cost of several tradeoffs:
- the process was slow and asynchronous
- there could be no interactivity (links, buttons, etc.) in the
converted element
- responsive behavior was wonky: if only a slice of the image was shown
when it was converted (due to background-size cover behavior), the
rest was lost so if more width was needed in mobile, we would be
zooming on that slice, making it sometimes irrelevant and pixelated
This replaces all that with a conversion to VML, which is a vector
format supported by Outlook. This conversion is done only for Outlook,
which means that all other clients are getting the original background
element again.
There is a way to keep the background-size cover behavior in VML, using
the "aspect" attribute with value "atleast" but this only works on
v-fill elements and sadly putting the image on a v-fill element bugs in
Windows Mail (which is the default mail client on Windows 10 and 11) and
this client can't be singled out of mso conditionals. To get around this
issue, since this is only for desktop clients, we assume the width of
the screen to be large and mimick the cover behavior by cropping the
image to the target size. This allows us to put the image on the v-image
element and have proper rendering in Outlook and Windows Mail on
desktop.
Note:
When retrieving the image by URL in Python in order to crop it, we need
to ensure we have an absolute path. This is done - perhaps seemingly
naively - by checking if the URL contains '//'. Here's the reasoning
behind that choice. To check if a URL is absolute, we could use
`urllib.parse.urlparse` and check if it has a scheme but that would lead
to `www.odoo.com/path` being considered relative (and thus we'd add a
host to the URL even though there's already one). Instead, we could
check it it has a netloc but that would lead to the same issue since the
documentation of `urlparse` says:
> Following the syntax specifications in
[RFC 1808](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc1808.html), urlparse
recognizes a netloc only if it is properly introduced by ‘//’.
Still, it would be more technically correct since `//some/path` would be
considered absolute (which it should be since it resolves to
`<current_scheme>//some/path`).
Base on that documentation, it seems that simply checking if the URL
contains '//' is pretty much equivalent to checking if it has a scheme,
with the double advantage that it's simpler and that it works for
`//some/path` as well. However, note that it doesn't solve the issue of
`www.odoo.com/path`.
In summary, here are the results with the current method:
```
http://www.odoo.com/path -> http://www.google.com/path // OK
some/path -> http://localhost:8069/some/path // OK
/some/path -> http://localhost:8069/some/path // OK
//some/path -> //some/path // OK
www.odoo.com/path -> http://localhost:8069/www.google.com/path // WRONG
```

According to Wiktionary, French spacing is "the archaic practice (though
still current in French) of inserting a space around colons, semicolons,
question marks, and exclamation marks". This is not standard practice in
English and most languages of the world.
The purpose of this commit is to start purging the code from this typo,
as it may reflect poorly on the software for some people.

Purpose of this commit is to extract fields generation on template for fields
not belonging to recipients or attachments in sub-methods. Code is cleaned to
better support parameters and be easier to call. It can now be called
independently from the main ``_generate_template`` method.
First sub method is dedicated to 'scheduled_date' which is dynamic and has its
own post processing (to be UTC agnostic as expected by ORM). Second one is
dedicated to static values coming directly from template without rendering.

When calling ``_render_fields`` asked options are now considered as more

Purpose is to allow to force some options when necessary.
Task-2710804 (Mail: Clean MailThread API)
Part-of: odoo/odoo#106072
Due to recent improvements (Jinja -> Qweb, safe rendering) rendering API
supports several ways of giving options to the rendering process. Those
have mainly two usage
* ``preserve_comments`` : keep comments in rendered HTML, used notably
in mass mailing or digest to keep browser-specific comments;
* ``post_process`` : perform a post processing on rendered HTML, used notably
to process local links and add tracking to shortened links;
All those are now given directly inside an optional ``options`` parameter
given to ``_render_field`` and its sub-method ``_render_template``.
They can also be defined as field level, using ``render_options`` field
parameter. Some fields are updated
* composer mixin body (which impacts all inheriting models, notably
mail composer, survey and elearning invite wizards as well as appraisal
and appraisal feedback): post processing is now always done by default.
It was already done manually in calls that can be simplified;
* mail template body_html: post processing is now always done by default. It
was already done manually in calls that can be simplified;
* mailing body_html and preview are now post processed by default. It was
already the case in testing wizard. Preview is updated to avoid post
processing of links, as it was before. Remaining use case is the sending
which uses the mail composer, therefore was already post processed;
Finally some 'compute_lang' are explicitly added in _render_field calls in
order to be explicit on what we want, instead of being unsure.

In this commit we support calling rendering methods on void or falsy record
sets. Currently some rendering methods prevent from having 'None', some do
nothing specific. As Qweb or inline template support rendering on void records
we can safely support rendering on [], (), [False], [None]. Returned result
will either be void, either contain the rendered on void record for the
False or None key.
In this commit we also add a protection against trying to render a non
existing field. Instead of raising a KeyError, a ValueError is raised with
a clearer error message.

There were inconsistencies in the calls to `_render`.
* the view context could contain information that misled developers.
Indeed, the context and value of the view are not supposed to be found
in the rendering. Thus by calling `ir.qweb` with the name of the
template, we ensure that there is no unwanted information and in
addition the cache key is that of the name of the template which saves
a query.
* the context used for rendering was modified by a method on
`ir.ui.view`, except this is not information used by this model. There
is now a `_prepare_environment` method residing on `ir.qweb`. This
method allows to modify the value dictionary as well as the context in
which the rendering will be done. This preparation of the data as well
as my security check is done only once per rendering. This also saves
some queries
* Freeze options for rendering were inconsistent. It could be that
options on which rendering depends were not part of the cache key. Thus,
depending on the user who generated the generation of the rendering
function, there was or was not information in the template. For example
for automatic branding. This is no longer possible, because it is the
context that is used. The options serving as a cache key are only
recorded for information (for the profiling system for example). A
simplification of the `ir.qweb.field` models could be made.
The report rendering and call `ir.qweb` instead of `ir.ui.view`.

1) The relative url cannot be converted to an absolute one.

QWeb is the primary templating engine used by Odoo. It is an XML
templating engine and used mostly to generate XML, HTML fragments and
pages.
To create new XML template, please see :doc:`QWeb Templates documentation

In **input** you have an XML template giving the corresponding input

This fonction is called and will give the XML **output**.
The ``_compile`` method is responsible to generate the function from the

For email design in the context of Microsoft Outlook, we want to keep
some magic Microsoft comments (Outlook conditional comment), which -
until this commit - were skipped by QWeb. These allow us to change the

(`preserve_comments`) for when - like in mass mailing and digest - we
want to keep comments.

Jinja as a templating engine was problematic in differents respect:
- introduce external dependency to Odoo (less controll)
- add another templating mechanism in the stack
- specific feature in qweb cannot be reused
- difficulty in rendering easily editable templates
- more knowledge required with no betterment
By replacing jinja with qweb we can now build tools to edit a qweb
that will work with the previously jinja encoded document
(essentially `mail.template` records).
There is a catch however. Some email fields (eg. email_to) used jinja
syntax for rendering dynamic variables (ie. ${object.something} and
${object.something_that_should_not_be_escaped | safe}).
We still want user to use dynamic variables for some char fields (eg.
subject, from, to, ...). We made a new rendering engine called
"inline_template" that will render an expression enclosed by `{{` and
`}}`.
To be able to edit the templates from the backend interface, a
plugin to the Odoo editor has been made for seamlessly edit the
document.
This qweb plugin includes:
- make dynamic variables (eg. `<t t-out="variable"/>`) not editable
(for preventing the user to shoot himself in the foot)
- group and hide related logical branching (ie. t-if, t-elif, and t-else)
in order to see only one at once
- a floating select input to switch visibility of a particular logical
branching

Purpose
=======
Purpose of this commit is to add a new group for the mail template designer.
Goal is to make roles clearer: managers edit templates, users use them. This
commit allow some designers / managers to make email template and to let
others users use those email templates.
Specifications
==============
When this feature is enabled in the Settings page, a new group is required to
modify email templates in a composer like wizard or to make dynamic content.
This allows to separate managers editing / composing templates from standard
users that use them.
If the current does not have this group, the email body will be in readonly
mode if he selected an email template. That way we force him to use the email
template that the manager made.
Technical
=========
New Group
---------
Only users in this group will be able to create / write email template or
to write Jinja code in the mail composer (including other fields like subject
in mailing).
By default, all internal users have this group. Mass mailing users also have
this group as writing mailings is about the same management level as writing
templates.
Mail Composer Mixin
-------------------
In comment mode, the template is rendered and then saved on the body field
so non-"Mail Template Editor" users can load email templates.
But in mass mode, the body of the template is saved and then rendered and
many things change the body (HTML sanitizer, web editor move inline CSS
properties, add / remove spaces...). So in this case, we can not know if
the user changed the body or not. That is why we put the body field in
readonly mode so, it is not modified by the web editor.
Jinja code detection
--------------------
To detect dynamic Jinja content, we compile the template, and we browse the
AST. If we do not have a single "Template Data" node, we assume that the
template is dynamic.
When we detect the template as static, we do not render it. That way we
avoid unnecessary rendering.
Code cleaning
-------------
Move Jinja import into tools so that it is outside of mail framework code.

Currently ``mail.render.mixin`` offers rendering tools, some of them being
based on a ``model`` field. It allows to know which model to use to fetch
records on which we perform rendering. However this field is not defined at
mixin level but in inheriting models without being clearly implemented that
way (see ``mail.template`` or ``sms.template`` models).
In order to clean this mixin it is now defined at mixin level, using a
not stored computed field allowing to define how to find this model. Sub
models are updated accordingly.
Other cleaning is done in the render mixin
* rename ``_render_template_qweb`` to ``_render_template_qweb_view``
to indicate it works on views, not on raw qweb templates;
* extract some common available variables for rendering in a method then
called / upated for jinja and qweb views;
* correctly set same rendering context for jinja and qweb views rendering;
* allow to propagate an additional context from _render_field to sub
rendering methods;
* allow to propagate options through rendering methods (notably for escaping
or safe attributes in jinja);
* allow to specify engine used to render lang;
* clean or update some docstrings;
Some tests are also added, as render mixin lacks some more detailed test to
ensure various use cases will be correctly migrated to other engines like
QWeb.

* The result of `plaintext2html` is fully controlled and
markup-safe (the first thing we do is escape the input).
* For `append_content_to_html`, we assume the inputs are HTML and the
output is thus always properly HTML.
Alternatively, we may want to `Markup("%s%s") % ...` and require the
inputs to be properly marked? That seems like a good idea.
* In `_replace_local_links`, applying re.sub will strip out the markup
mark, so store it and reapply it on output if necessary.
That one is a big gnarly, because if the input to ustr is
markup-safe bytes (e.g. qweb rendering output) then the output is a
Markup object, but if the input is str then the output is str, so we
need to check before and after unless... we update ustr to check for
subclasses instead of exact type?
* In `_prepend_preview` the issue is similar to that of
`append_content_to_html`, though in this case we should *not* trust
the input, so we can flag the "parent document" as Markup and format
the preview bit in.
* And since we're marking mail's jinja output as safe, do the same for
web and iot.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be any hook for doing that at the
environment level of jinja, so every `Template.render` site has to
be marked.

When displaying an email in a list the mail client (gmail, outlook...) computes
a preview based on the content. This preview is generally not well computed as
it contains a lot of garbage and tags while it should contain only relevant
text.
SPECIFICATIONS
To build this preview, all mail clients read the content of the email.
The only way to be able to customize the preview is to add an invisible

We add at the end of the preview `‌` (zero-width non-joiner) to
fill the end of the preview in order to not have the beginning of the
mail at the end of the preview. It doesn't work with simple space as
the mail clients trim each HTML element content.

like rendering jinja. Instead of giving the template to render the xml id of
the view is passed.
This code is meant to be improved in a near future with new use cases that
will soon arise.

PURPOSE
Move links shortening tools on mail.render.mixin to have rendering and
post procesing tools available on that mixin.

PURPOSE
Merge rendering tools used in mail and sms templates as well as partially
in mailings and move them directly in mail.render.mixin.
SPECIFICATIONS
Move tools related to language computation from mail.template model to the
mail.render.mixin. It allows to update both
* mail.template: simply update calls accordingly;
* sms.template: remove code doing what is now available through mail.render
.mixin inherit;
Lang field is moved to mail.render.mixin as it is used notably for the language
computation. It therefore adds the field on mailing.mailing model although
not used currently.

We also have to update code calling directly the rendering itself. Indeed
some code bits does some rendering directly on jinja-enabled input and not
through templates. Those calls have to be updated accordingly.

PURPOSE
Clarify mail.template, mail.render.mixin and sms.template code organization.
SPECIFICATIONS
Reorganize fields according to their main use.
Remove an unnecessary onchange in mail template model. As "model" field on mail
template is a computed field its computation is sufficient.
Add some docstrings and code separations.
Prepare future code change.

PURPOSE
Upgrade the "mass_mailing" and "mass_mailing_sms" modules with a dynamic
placeholder generator as it already exists in "mail module" as depicted in
https://www.screencast.com/t/cnFA0gIY.
SPECIFICATIONS
As duplicated code already exists for that and that a third version of this
code has to be added, instead create a mixin for this dynamic placeholder
generator to avoid code duplication.
Thereby
* a mail.render mixin for the dynamic placeholder generator must be
created in mail;
* dynamic placeholder generator code present in mail.template.py must be
moved to that mixin and replaced by a simple inherit;
* use the mixin in
* mail templates: mail.template.py (mail module);
* mass mailings: mailing.py (mass_mailing module);
* sms templates: sms.template (mass_mailing_sms module);
In a near future, some code will be added in this mixin, notably the template
rendering that could be moved outside of mail.template core model and moved
in that rendering mixin.
